RetroRuss is from `Back in the Day's'- discovering soul and funk at the age

of 14 and in 1976, and started collecting the sounds from them. He did his

first gig aged 14 years and then followed on with a series of one offs over

the years. He discovered that it was better listening then playing! In 1976

he sneaked himself into the old Royalty in Southgate, North London before,

at the age of 18, in 1978 getting `known' in the West club scene - at the

time there was an explosion of disco music and RetroRuss got to know all the

leading DJ's of the time, helping them on the decks occasionally, enjoying

the energy of dance music of the time  - always staying one step ahead of

the pack. By 1981 the scene had become too commercial and RetroRuss, tiring of

high energy, synth music and just plain pap decided to hang up his Disco

shoes. He still continued to add to his collection, often buying other

disillusioned DJ's collections - who'd had enough! Consequently, over the

years RetroRuss has built an extensive collection of Disco, Soul and Funk

music, covering the Golden period 1977 - 1979.

20 years passed by and RetroRuss, after having raised a family, invested in a

pair of Technics, a Denon amp, Gemini mixer (now upgraded to a Pioneer

DJM600) and a couple of speakers and started doing house parties! He played

(and still does) the popular disco but his first love is the deeper hard

edge dance music of the time...In October 2004 RetroRuss was asked to 'fill

in' at a music night at The Royal Oak pub in Temple Fortune and has gone on

to play private parties, clubs and bars  - RetroRuss organised 'Lets get It

Together' with PapaG in June 2005, which attracted over 250 people, guested

at 'Jumpback' held at The Progress bar in Tufnell Park and is a Moderator on

the world's largest disco music forum. He has a show on the ever popular

Internet Radio Station Jazz Syndicate Radio and a show on London's leading

Dance Music station UnknownFM
